Tracie Bennett, Janie Dee and Imelda Staunton play the magnificent Follies in this dazzling new production. Featuring a cast of 37 and an orchestra of 21, it’s directed by Dominic Cooke (The Comedy of Errors).
Winner of Academy, Tony, Grammy and Olivier awards, Sondheim’s previous work includes A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd and Sunday in the Park with George.

イメルダさんにはご縁があって、生の舞台で拝見したことが3回。そのうち2作品、Sweeney Todd、Gypsyで見ていたので、このFolliesもソンドハイム作品ということもあって、ぜひ観たかった作品。イメルダさんはじめ、熟年キャストの技とパワーに魅せられた3時間という感じ。Gypsyの時も思ったけど、生の舞台で生きざままでさらけ出すような演技という感じかな。若いキャストも出ているんだけど、どうしても熟年キャストの方に目が行ってしまう。さすがに映像になってしまうと、迫力は大分削がれてしまっているだろうけど、それでもね（笑）。
実を言うとストーリー自体は私にはあまり共感するところはないんだけども、それでもイメルダさんのLosing My Mind、これは素晴らしかった。もう涙が止まりませんでした。
日本で映像ででも見られるのは本当に有難いと思いながらも、なお一層生舞台で観たいという思いが湧き上がるという、罪なNational Theatre Liveでした（笑）。
10/22（月）、TOHOシネマズ日本橋にて鑑賞。
